Military's law enforcement system as whitewash: Killing of Mustafa Tamimi
On 9 Dec. 2011 Tamimi was hit by a tear-gas canister fired at him from close range while throwing stones at a protest. He died the next day. Two years later the MAG Corps closed the case on untenable grounds; B’Tselem appealed the decision. The Military Prosecution denied the appeal in Feb. 2016, citing implausible scenarios to absolve the shooter and his commanders of criminal liability, thereby sending a message that soldiers may act with impunity and underscoring the limitations of a system that does not examine policy or the responsibility of senior officers.
