Defensiveness Is One Of The Biggest Reasons We Don't Embrace Healthy Behaviors

Public health messages often tell people things they don't want to hear: Stop smoking, stop drinking alcohol, exercise more, trade your pizza and hot dogs for a salad. For many people, these messages trigger our natural defenses. They make us feel bad about ourselves and our choices, leading our subconscious to reject the healthy encouragement. So how can we truly transform ourselves if our support structure for health makes us feel guilty?
Image result for public health

"While most medical and public health efforts today focus on reducing risk factors for diseases, evidence has been mounting that enhancing psychological resilience may also make a difference," said Eric Kim, a research fellow in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

new study published today in PNAS (link is external) found that a simple priming exercise in which sedentary people think beyond themselves before viewing health messages can make those messages more effective. Not only did participants' brain activity show that they were more receptive to the messages, but they actually became more physically active in the weeks that followed.
The study involved 220 sedentary adults who were either overweight or obese -- people whose lack of physical activity puts them at increased risk for a variety of negative health outcomes.
"One of the things that get in the way of people changing their behavior is defensiveness," explains senior author Emily Falk, Associate Professor of Communication, Psychology, and Marketing at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. "When people are reminded that it's better to park the car further away and get in a few more steps, or to get up and move around at work to lower their risk for heart disease, they often come up with reasons why these suggestions might be relevant for somebody else, but not for them."
To combat those defensive feelings, researchers engaged the participants in one of two self-transcendence tasks and compared their responses to those in a non-transcendent control group. Self-transcendence tasks required participants to think about values bigger than themselves -- such as people they loved and cared about -- and did so while the subjects were in a fMRI machine, allowing researchers to see their brain activity in real time.
The first self-transcendence group reflected on things that mattered most to them. If they chose "friends and family," they might be asked to think about times in the future when they might feel close to their friends and family. If they chose "spirituality," they might be asked to think about times when they might connect with God or other sources of higher power.
A second self-transcendence group was asked to make repeated positive wishes for both people they knew and for strangers. These included hopes that your friends would be joyful or that others would be well.
Meanwhile, a control group reflected on their least important values.
Then all the participants viewed blunt health messages that encouraged them to be more active or explained why their current behaviors put them at risk. For example:
  • Getting more active will strengthen your muscles. Stronger muscles will make it easier for you to get around and do the things you enjoy for longer.
  • Make a habit of walking up and down the stairs whenever you can. Avoid taking the elevator as often as possible.
  • The American Heart Association says sedentary people like you are at serious risk for heart disease. This means more pills and a higher risk of sickness and death.

In the month that followed, participants received daily text messages that repeated the experiment in miniature, priming them to think self-transcendent thoughts (or neutral control thoughts) before they received health messages. The also wore fitness trackers to monitor their activity.
Those who had completed either of the self-transcendence tasks were significantly more active in the month that followed, with less time spent being sedentary.

In addition, the researchers found that during the self-transcendence tasks, people showed greater activity in brain regions involved in reward and positive-valuation, when compared to the control group.
"People often report that self-transcendence is an intrinsically rewarding experience," says lead author Yoona Kang, a postdoctoral fellow with the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. "When you are having concerns for others, these can be rewarding moments."
These rewarding feelings, the researchers believe, can lead people to be more open to hearing otherwise-unwelcome health advice.
"If you let people first 'zoom out' and think about the things and people that matter most to them," says Falk, "then they see that their self-concept and self-worth aren't tied to this particular behavior -- in this case, their lack of physical activity."
Kang also points out that allowing people to feel part of something larger than themselves can have positive health effects.
"People are capable of doing things for their loved ones that they'd probably never do for themselves," she says. "The idea of self-transcendence -- caring for others beyond one's own self-interest -- is a potentially powerful source of change."
The researchers are currently testing a phone app for the general public which delivers daily pairs of self-affirming and health messages, like those used in the study. Click here to download the app from the iTunes store. (link is external)

Measles Transmitted By The Vaccinated, Gov. Researchers Confirm

Measles Transmitted By The Vaccinated, Gov. Researchers Confirm

Research reveals that a vaccinated individual not only can become infected with measles, but can also spread it to others who are also vaccinated against it - doubly disproving that the administration of multiple doses of MMR vaccine is "97% effective," as widely claimed.
One of the fundamental errors in thinking about measles vaccine effectiveness is that receipt of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine equates to bona fide immunity against measles virus. Indeed, it is commonly claimed by health organizations like the CDC that receiving two doses of the MMR vaccine is "97 percent effective in preventing measles," despite a voluminous body of contradictory evidence from epidemiology and clinical experience.
This erroneous thinking has led the public, media and government alike to attribute the origin of measles outbreaks, such as the one reported at Disney in 2015 (and which lead to the passing of SB277 that year, stripping vaccine exemptions for all but medical reasons in California), to the non-vaccinated, even though 18% of the measles cases occurred in those who had been vaccinated against it -- hardly the vaccine's two-dose claimed "97% effectiveness." The vaccine's obvious fallibility is also indicated by the fact that that the CDC now requires two doses.
But the problems surrounding the failing MMR vaccine go much deeper. First, they carry profound health risks(over 25 of which we have indexed here: MMR vaccine dangers), including increased autism risk, which a senior CDC scientist confessed his agency covered up, which do not justify the risk, given that measles is not only not deadly but confers significant health benefits that have been validated in the biomedical literatureSecond, not only does the MMR vaccine fail to consistently confer immunitybut those who have been "immunized" with two doses of MMR vaccine can still transmit the infection to others -- a phenomena no one is reporting on in the rush to blame the non- or minimally-vaccinated for the outbreak.

MMR Vaccinated Can Still Spread Measles

Three years ago, a groundbreaking study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, whose authorship included scientists working for the Bureau of Immunization, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, GA, looked at evidence from the 2011 New York measles outbreak that individuals with prior evidence of measles vaccination and vaccine immunity were both capable of being infected with measles and infecting others with it (secondary transmission).
This finding even aroused the attention of mainstream news reporting, such as this Sciencemag.org article from April 2014 titled "Measles Outbreak Traced to Fully Vaccinated Patient for First Time."
Titled, "Outbreak of Measles Among Persons With Prior Evidence of Immunity, New York City, 2011," the groundbreaking study acknowledged that, "Measles may occur in vaccinated individuals, but secondary transmission from such individuals has not been documented."
In order to find out if measles vaccine compliant individuals are capable of being infected and transmitting the infection to others, they evaluated suspected cases and contacts exposed during a 2011 measles outbreak in NYC. They focused on one patient who had received two doses of measles-containing vaccine and found that,
"Of 88 contacts, four secondary cases were confirmed that had either two doses of measles-containing vaccine or a past positive measles IgG antibody. All cases had laboratory confirmation of measles infection, clinical symptoms consistent with measles, and high avidity IgG antibody characteristic of a secondary immune response."
Their remarkable conclusion:
"This is the first report of measles transmission from a twice vaccinated individual. The clinical presentation and laboratory data of the index were typical of measles in a naïve individual. Secondary cases had robust anamnestic antibody responses. No tertiary cases occurred despite numerous contacts. This outbreak underscores the need for thorough epidemiologic and laboratory investigation of suspected measles cases regardless of vaccination status."
Did you follow that? A twice-vaccinated individual, from a NYC measles outbreak, was found to have transmitted measles to four of her contacts, two of which themselves had received two doses of MMR vaccine and had prior presumably protective measles IgG antibody results.
This phenomenon -- the MMR vaccine compliant infecting other MMR vaccine compliant cases – has been ignored by health agencies and the media. This data corroborates the possibility that, during the Disney measles outbreak the previously vaccinated (any of the 18% known to have become infected) may have become infected or already were shedding measles from a vaccine and transmitted measles to both the vaccinated and the non-vaccinated.
Moreover, these CDC and NYC Bureau of Immunization scientists identified a 'need' for there to be "thorough epidemiologic and laboratory investigation of suspected measles cases regardless of vaccination status," i.e. investigators must rule out vaccine failure and infection by fully infected individuals as contributing to measles outbreaks.
Instead, what's happening now is that the moment a measles outbreak occurs, a reflexive 'blame the victim' attitude is assumed, and the media and/or health agencies report on the outbreak as if it has been proven the afflicted are under or non-vaccinated – often without sufficient evidence to support these claims.  Clearly stakeholders in the vaccine/non-vaccine debate need to look at the situation through the lens of the evidence itself and not science by proclamation or pleas to authority.
Amazingly, the truth has been suppressed for decades. Twenty years ago, the MMR vaccine was found to infect virtually all of its recipients with measles. Scientists working at the CDC's National Center for Infectious Diseases, funded by the WHO and the National Vaccine Program, discovered something truly disturbing about the MMR vaccine: it leads to detectable measles infection in the vast majority of those who receive it. The MMR vaccine's manufacturer Merck's own product insert, the MMR can cause measles inclusion body encephalitis (MIBE), a rare but potentially lethal form of brain infection with measles. Learn more by reading my article on the topic, "The Vaccinated Spreading Measles: WHO, Merck, CDC Documents Confirm."

Stop Blaming A Failing Vaccine on Failure to Vaccinate

The moral of the story is that you can't blame non-vaccinating parents for the morbidity and mortality of infectious diseases when vaccination does not result in immunity and does not keep those who are vaccinated from infecting others. In fact, outbreaks secondary to measles vaccine failure and shedding in up to 99% immunization compliant populations have happened for decades. Here are just a few examples reported in the medical literature:
  • 1985, Texas, USA: According to an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1987, "An outbreak of measles occurred among adolescents in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the spring of 1985, even though vaccination requirements for school attendance had been thoroughly enforced." They concluded: "We conclude that outbreaks of measles can occur in secondary schools, even when more than 99 percent of the students have been vaccinated and more than 95 percent are immune."1
  • 1985, Montana, USA: According to an article published in the American Journal of Epidemiology titled, "A persistent outbreak of measles despite appropriate prevention and control measures," an outbreak of 137 cases of measles occurred in Montana. School records indicated that 98.7% of students were appropriately vaccinated, leading the researchers to conclude: "This outbreak suggests that measles transmission may persist in some settings despite appropriate implementation of the current measles elimination strategy."2
  • 1988, Colorado, USA: According to an article published in the American Journal of Public Health in 1991, "early 1988 an outbreak of 84 measles cases occurred at a college in Colorado in which over 98 percent of students had documentation of adequate measles immunity ... due to an immunization requirement in effect since 1986. They concluded: "...measles outbreaks can occur among highly vaccinated college populations."3
  • 1989, Quebec, Canada: According to an article published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health in 1991, a 1989 measles outbreak was "largely attributed to an incomplete vaccination coverage," but following an extensive review the researchers concluded "Incomplete vaccination coverage is not a valid explanation for the Quebec City measles outbreak.4
  • 1991-1992, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: According to an article published in the journal Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, in a measles outbreak from March 1991 to April 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, 76.4% of those suspected to be infected had received measles vaccine before their first birthday.5
  • 1992, Cape Town, South Africa: According to an article published in the South African Medical Journal in 1994, "[In] August 1992 an outbreak occurred, with cases reported at many schools in children presumably immunised." Immunization coverage for measles was found to be 91%, and vaccine efficacy found to be only 79%, leading them to conclude that primary and secondary vaccine failure was a possible explanation for the outbreak.6
There are plenty of other examples of the measles vaccine's abject failure, including a study published in PLoS titled, "Difficulties in eliminating measles and controlling rubella and mumps: a cross-sectional study of a first measles and rubella vaccination and a second measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination," which brought to light the glaring ineffectiveness of two measles vaccines (measles–rubella (MR) or measles–mumps–rubella (MMR) ) in fulfilling their widely claimed promise of preventing outbreaks in highly vaccine compliant populations. We dove deeply into the implications of this study in our article titled, "Why Is China Having Measles Outbreaks When 99% Are Vaccinated?"
The most recent example was released on the CDC's website today in a report titled, "Measles Outbreak in a Highly Vaccinated Population — Israel, July–August 2017," where they describe a patient zero who had received three doses of MMR. Not unsurprisingly the CDC does not draw the obvious conclusion that the MMR vaccine failed, rather, that they should consider the measles a possibility when they examine a patient with fever and a rash even when the patient is vaccinated.
These seven outbreaks are by no means exhaustive of the biomedical literature, but illustrate just how misled the general public is about the effectiveness of measles vaccines, and the CDC's vaccination agenda in general.  No amount of historical ignorance will erase the fact that vaccination does not equal immunization; antigenicity does not equal immunogenicity. Nor are the unintended, adverse effects of MMR and other vaccines in the CDC schedule accurately portrayed, precluding access to the medical ethical principle of informed consent.

Does Cannabis Make You More Creative?

Cannabis is one of the most powerful healing plants on the planet. One of the most important roles cannabinoids play is in the suppression of cancer. However, the plant's impact on our psychological health, including artistic creativity and convergent thinking has now been highlighted by a study in Consciousness and Cognition.

A new study on the effects of smoking marijuana and its relation to creativity has some interesting results. As one of nature's most medicinal plants, it turns out how it makes us feel and think goes beyond logical interpretations.
The study consisted of 412 marijuana users and 309 non-users, and they attempted to answer the question: Does smoking marijuana make you more creative?

Previous research suggests cannabis may enhance some aspects of creativity, although the results remain somewhat equivocal. Moreover, it is unclear whether differences in cannabis users' personalities may account for any potentially beneficial effects of cannabis on creativity.

When cannabis is used over a period of time, it allows us to witness our many subtle motives which, under normal consciousness, are usually not noticeable. Duality within human consciousness becomes clear as does the ego and alter ego. With this expansiveness which occurs after ingesting cannabis, users may begin to notice infinite possibilities to raise the quality of his/her life that would otherwise have remained hidden from normal, defensive consciousness. And feelings of health and happiness naturally lead to hope and creativity, which of itself can be curative.
Emily LaFrance, the co-author of the study and graduate student at Washington State University, says she first became interested in the topic when she noticed that a lot of her favorite artists admit they smoke marijuana. "This cannabis use was commonly thought to have been a cause of the creative success of many artists," she explains. "I began to wonder about this commonly held idea -- are cannabis users really more creative than non-users?"
The study is called "Inspired by Mary Jane? Mechanisms underlying enhanced creativity in cannabis users" and was published in Consciousness and Cognition. It examined the participants over a variety of areas including psychological tests and measuring creative works and achievements.
Some major points from the study include:
  • Cannabis users were more likely to be extroverted and open to new experiences.
  • Cannabis users reported higher levels of artistic creativity, but not a higher amount of creative achievements or completed works.
  • Cannabis users performed better on a convergent thinking test (which tests creative problem solving).

Overall, they did find that those who use marijuana are more creative than their counterparts who do not use it, but when they dug deeper they made a startling discovery.
When the scientists included the personality traits into the data, they realized that these traits on their own could determine whether a person is more open to using marijuana, as well as drive a tendency to be more creative.
"Cannabis users may be more creative than non-users," LaFrance says, "but this is not because using cannabis has increased their creativity." She goes on to explain that it's the fact that marijuana users "are more open to experience than non-users, and this openness to experience is associated with both cannabis use and heightened creativity."
So there you have it: if you smoke pot you're probably more creative than people who don't...but it's not necessarily the weed that's got your creativity going. It was you all along!
Note: This study was conducted with all subjects being sober, meaning none of them were under the influence of marijuana during the test.

Many researchers continue to be interested in the idea that psychedelics facilitate communication across the brain and, more specifically, how the default-mode network in the brain, arguably science’s best biological correlate of the self, normally works to constrain this.

The Mainstream Media: A Tool to Destroy the U.S.

A deliberate attempt is being made by the MSM (Mainstream Media) to destroy the remaining fabric of American society and force the country’s disintegration and absorption into a global government. They don’t have very far to go: since the 1960s, a family-centered culture that was the “hub” of the greatest nation this world has ever seen…that bastion of the family has been eroded and all but destroyed. The replacement “culture” has been one of drug use, pornography, “sloth” within all the generations…young, middle-aged, and elderly, and a fostered unwillingness to take responsibility for anything of value. The country is an entitlement nation that “asks not what you can do for your country, but what can you take from it.” The family is not even referred to in that manner anymore. I have read the term “consumer units” to refer to households, as well as “household groupings.”
Communities…true communities where individuals and families contribute to the overall welfare of the area and each other…are almost nonexistent. This has been replaced with Communism, currently undergoing its “Genesis” from the soft form of socialism and the semi-laissez faire authoritarianism that is exemplified by the surveillance state. The socialism will turn into communism, as Lenin (Ulyanov, if you prefer) pointed out to us. A forced “communal” mindset is being blared at us by every weapon the Media has in its arsenal: the radio, newspapers, television, and the Internet/Social Media monster.
Daily, the paradigm is shifted, and the consciousness of the people is being battered with wave after wave of unrelenting actions. No publication better exemplifies the heinous nature of the Media’s intentions than Time Magazine. A Feminist Agenda is being peddled under the guise of “equality,” but in reality it is a sinister operation carried out by nefarious individuals masquerading as “reporters,” “editors,” and “columnists,” meant to polarize groups and to foster a sense of “blame” or “guilt” with every action.
As an example, the September 18, 2017 issue of Time Magazine has an Editorial Page (page 4) by Nancy Gibbs, Editor-in-Chief, that explains how 12 women were on the cover of Time as “Firsts,” or “groundbreaking” women who the magazine holds up as positive examples. Hillary Clinton and Ellen Degeneres are two of those examples that are upheld and lauded. Funny how they didn’t slap a picture of Hillary Clinton on the cover around the time of Benghazi, Libya, or when she resigned her position as Secretary of State. They didn’t put one up there of Victoria Nuland, either, or Rosanne Barr. Paula Deen was also left out.
Time didn’t skip a beat with its cover of its December 18, 2017 issue entitled “The Silence Breakers: the voices that launched a movement,” with the theme being women who came forward with stories of sexual harassment.  Missing from that ensemble was Asia Argento, who was accused of sexually harassing a man. January 29, 2018 issue with the photos of 48 women on the cover, with the lead article entitled “The Avengers: First they marched. Now they’re running.” This issue is all about women running for public office.
Not “Public Servants,” but Avengers: the characterization of every one of these articles.
If a woman takes that stance when running for office…the stance of an “Avenger” instead of a public servant, then she is doing more than a disservice to her constituents: she is committing fraud. Underlying the public oath she will take if she wins is the fact that it is done for a nefarious reason…to exact revenge against male dominance or discrimination, whether real or imagined. This is not the characterization needed by someone who holds public office, a public servant who is supposed to champion the interests of all.
But the true crime is committed by the magazine: this is a form of hate speech treading upon eggshells.  Under the guise of freedom of speech and freedom of the press (and protection under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution), they can say anything they want, right? How about where these pieces by the time were meant to polarize groups and set off one group (in this case men) to be vilified…would not this be a form of “hate speech?” Just as you are not allowed to shout “fire” in a movie theater when there is none…an action that will lead to an arrest…how are these MSM people able to force this nonsense on the rest of us? Every cover and every article has an agenda.
To be sure, there is no such thing as perfect reporting, because that would mean that complete objectivity has been attained, and there is no such thing. The problem lies in the fact that this is not a matter of objectivity: it is a matter of complete “slant” and deliberate obfuscation of the facts in order to mold public consciousness (they have no “conscience”) and shift it toward Communism. They trick you: they uphold “community,” but what they really mean is Communism, plain and simple. You’re a part of the group, complete with slogans and “groupthink,” until you do something as an individual, and then you either are ostracized, punished or cast out.
In a sheer case of reverse discrimination, males…Caucasian males, to be exact, are denounced, ridiculed, and degraded at every turn. The President of the United States is the most visible Caucasian male, and he has been the lead “scapegoat” for all of the ills that befall the “woe is me!” crowd of whining entitlement-centered voters whose only true qualification for voting is being born in the United States (we hope). Mueller is a white male, and here is how they did it: pitted two white males against one another, and the Left wins, no matter who wins!
Mueller and his witch hunt have been a relentless, circuitous pursuit with no clear-cut objectives and no end to the hunt.  If he “found” something, it makes the President look bad. If nothing happens, then it still casts a “shadow of a doubt” on the President…sometimes equally damaging as an action…and Mueller ends up appearing as a bumbling clown….two white males in a negative light, no matter what the result.
On various Time Magazine, covers are an assortment of males who are vilified: The President, Steve Bannon, Vladimir Putin. They also put one up of Harvey Weinstein, the vehicle to open the door and charge all human males in the United States who have ever looked at a woman. Amazing how the charges did not surface and Weinstein was not “quite so villainous” before the 2016 election when he was contributing heavily to the Democrats and to Hillary Clinton.
We have focused on one magazine, but this same pattern is rampant in all of the publications.  September 21, 2018’s issue of “The Week” depicts the President with his back towards us, and in front of him are six black masked-and-garbed individuals staring at him. The caption reads, “The Resistance: Why Trump’s own staff is conspiring to thwart his impulses.”
See this, and see it for what it is:  “…Trump’s own staff is conspiring to thwart his impulses.”
His impulses? That the President acts on impulse, and not on thought-out decisions with deliberation behind them…that is the lie this magazine wishes to push on the public. It is not only in this regard that the country is being destroyed. You don’t see anything of any worth in these publications that contribute to the overall good of society, because they don’t wish that.
The Media does not want a “good” society: they want a degenerate society that is either cowed into compliance or so focused within and upon all its filthy acts that it does not care what goes on around it. Such leads to submission and enables control
The Media has blinded the people by showing them what they wish to see: themselves. The Media has purposefully, deliberately lowered the standards. The Media (inclusive of Hollywood, mind you, and the movies and television) have presented aberrant behaviors and actions that denigrated and destroyed the former social fabric. They have enabled others of their ilk (Communists in Politics and in Business) to foster a new “Third World” society, including the abolition of the middle class and the ending of where the government is the final answer and solution to all problems.
Read. Read the “Communist Manifesto,” and the Planks of Communism, and you will see in print what was written decades ago, that is happening here and now in the U.S. Read Alexander Solzhenitsyn's works to see what happens at the “final tipping point” of the full-blown change of a nation into a Communist totalitarian society.
And read the newspapers, the magazines, and the like: it will all jump right out at you. We are at a tipping point where the economy is not stable, where there are many elements that could turn into tremendous social conflicts and upheavals domestically, and the rest of the world is little by little “decoupling” from the Petrodollar and reliance upon American markets. Throughout all of this, the Media has been there to make it worse, to skew the news, and to force societal transformation and paradigm shift through its propaganda toward a Communist society and the relegation of American sovereignty toward global governance.

So... Who the Hell are You?

MULTIPLE STUDIES SHOW USING CBD OIL FOR SLEEP DISORDERS MAY BE YOUR SAFEST BET

We all need an adequate amount of sleep to stay healthy, energetic, and mentally acute. Yet, many factors can easily get in the way of that ideal 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night. Stress, a troubled mind, physical discomfort, and countless other factors can cause you to lose out on sleep. This is where cannabidiol (CBD) can be a crucial supplement.

Pharmaceutical Solutions for Sleep Disorders

First, let’s look at your options when it comes to pharmaceutical sleeping aides. There are some seemingly-innocuous over-the-counter (OTC) medications, such as Tylenol PM, Benadryl and Unisom. Most of these have typical OTC drug side-effects, such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation.
Unfortunately, many sufferers don’t realize that these OTC drugs are meant to be taken on a short-term basis. Long-term use can compromise the body on a more biological level, causing problems such as liver toxicity. Furthermore, many of these OTC sleep aids may cause daytime drowsiness. Doesn’t this actually defeat the reason why you would want to use them? If you’re taking drugs to get some sleep, you’d hope to have energy the next day, versus still feeling sluggish.
On the other hand, there are theoretically more effective prescription sedatives and hypnotics. Unfortunately, these medications carry some very serious risks that make the side-effects of OTC drugs seem quite trivial. For example, they increase your risk of mortality, often result in next-day functional impairment, and could cause depression.
Statistics published by Project CBD show a very concerning risk:
10,000 deaths per year are directly caused by and attributed to hypnotic drugs, based on medical examiner data. However, large epidemiological studies suggest the number of fatalities may actually be closer to 300,000-500,000 per year.
This may be making you think: why are such dangerous, scary drugs even legal!
What if there was a much safer way to treat sleeplessness and other sleep disorders that didn’t have any side effects? This is where CBD oil extract or tincture comes into the picture. This cannabis-derived supplement seems to hold significant promise for those suffering from sleep ailments.

Researchers Look Into CBD Oil for Sleep Disorders

Although medical cannabis is very effective in inducing sleepiness, many people do not want smoke or ingest weed. Also, many do not enjoy the psychoactive effects of the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Fortunately, producers are now extracting the non-psychoactive CBD from the cannabis plant and offering many high-quality CBD oil supplements.

Researchers and medical professionals have been very eager to understand the effect that CBD really has on our sleep. We now have a significant array of studies that give us a glimpse into CBD’s potential. Peter Grinspoon, MD, writes on his blog at Harvard Health Publishing:
CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep.
Staying asleep is one of the biggest obstacles for many people, especially ones suffering from stress or illness. Research shows that CBD may help. A study out of the University of São Paulo states:
The systemic acute administration of CBD appears to increase total sleep time, in addition to increasing sleep latency in the light period of the day of administration.
Let’s be honest. It is often stress, anxiety, fear, trauma, etc. that keeps the mind “awake” when it’s time to fall asleep. Testing of CBD oil to help sleeplessness caused by post-traumatic stress has shown very positive results. Here’s what researchers from the University of Colorado School of Medicine discovered:
Cannabidiol oil, an increasingly popular treatment of anxiety and sleep issues, has been documented as being an effective alternative to pharmaceutical medications. This case study provides clinical data that support the use of cannabidiol oil as a safe treatment for reducing anxiety and improving sleep in a young girl with posttraumatic stress disorder.

Sleeplessness in the Western World

Excessive daytime sleepiness and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep are extremely common. But is this really all that much of a surprise? The Western lifestyle sets unrealistic expectations on people at work, in school and in social settings. Studies show that eight out of ten Americans are afflicted by stress. In addition, the overwhelming amount of time that we spend in front of screens plays a significant role in our collective sleep deprivation. Furthermore, the body is under a constant barrage of electromagnetic pollution.
No wonder so many people have trouble sleeping well! Even if you’re not one of the 40 million Americans who has reported to suffer from a sleep disorder, you could probably still benefit from better sleep.

Sleep Disorders Could Lead to Chronic Illness

The body is constantly bombarded with chemicals in food, water, and the environment. It is constantly fighting off germs and pathogens. Thus, it needs sleep to regenerate, cleanse, reset, etc. Hence, if you’re getting less than 7 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, you are more likely to suffer from a variety of chronic health conditions. These include obesity, diabetes, depression, heart disease, and stroke. Other ailments are also possible, such as brain fog, cognitive decline, and headaches.
Many people are starting to use CBD oil for sleep ailments, as well as to support general health and wellbeing. FUCK THE WAR MACHINE! CHOOSING THE COURAGE TO DEFY WARMONGERS

“Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.” ~Gustave Flaubert
Be violent against belief, thought and theory; be nonviolent against people and the environment.
What does this mean exactly? It simply means be ruthless in your questioning regarding your beliefs, your thoughts and your theories, especially those you hold dear and codependently cling to. It also means be open-minded, tolerant and loving regarding the freedom of others and the health of the environment, especially in the sense that you are interdependently connected.
The expression “fuck the war machine!” is succinct in expressing the polarities of this concept. In just four short words belief, thought, and theory is violently attacked while no persons nor environment are harmed, and while both people and the environment are guarded against future harm.
People’s feelings may get “hurt.” But so what? The people all caught up in their feelings are the ones clinging to belief, thought, and theory at the expense of actually harming others. Fuck both feelings and the war machine!
It rolls off the tongue. Say it. “Fuck the war machine!” It feels good to say it. It’s audacious and courageous. It’s nonconformist yet compassionate. It’s focused anger and yet loving kindness. All at the same time. It strikes at the heart of overreaching power while also empowering the powerless. It’s filled with insouciance and bloodymindedness, despite the Powers That Be. But it’s also fierce and loving on behalf of all cultures and the biotic community.
At its core, war is a violent mix between homicide and ecocide. It’s two “rights” obliterating each other’s rights. Contrastingly, peace is a nonviolent mix of tolerance and love. It’s two “wrongs” (in the sense that we are a fallible species) admitting they could be wrong.
“Fuck the war machine” strikes the chord between the weak violence of war and the robust nonviolence of peace. Think Warrior in the Garden, Peaceful Warrior, and the Art of Fighting Without Fighting.

War is two “rights” obliterating each other’s rights:

“It is an absurd contradiction to speak of peace, to negotiate peace, and at the same time promote or permit the global arms trade. Is this war or that war really a war to solve problems? Or is it a commercial war for selling weapons in illegal trade and so that the merchants of death can get rich?” ~Pope Francis
Let’s admit it, the Military Industrial Complex has a serious complex. When did we transform from a nation founded upon dissent to a nation dumbfounded by a tyrannical war machine hellbent on dropping bombs on people for profit?
Let’s stop kidding ourselves. The elephant in the room is a long-nosed, heavy-breathing, militant asshole with its trunk up our skirts. Even worse, it’s a floppy-eared, terrorist-generating war machine with an American flag tattooed on its flank. But nobody wants to acknowledge it. It reeks to high-hell of rotten peanuts and drone strikes, but nobody wants to admit that it’s standing right fucking there! Obesely hogging all the room.
Meanwhile, education is a cat, healthcare is a mouse and infrastructure is a cricket, and they’re all being starved and crowded out by this giant asshole of a militarized elephant sucking up all the oxygen.
Wake up and smell the collateral damage! Kowtowing to a terrorist-generating death machine that just fattens the pockets of weapons manufacturers while innocent people die in the crossfire is fundamentally immoral. Indifference to such a monstrosity is the height of insanity. Lest you remain one of the ignorant members of a profoundly sick society, it’s time to rise up and say: “Fuck the war machine!”
As WWII Navy Veteran Ted Stanford put it, “At the end of the cold war we could have diverted tax dollars to the quality of our lives, things like health care, education, infrastructure, eliminating poverty, and protecting against climate change. Alas, the peace dividend never happened. Why not? Because the military, and persons profiting from the military, like weapons manufacturers and their lobbyists in Congress didn’t want to. That’s why. Only 8 percent of Americans polled in 2014 wanted the United States to lead the world militarily. But that 8 percent won out. That’s plutocracy.”
Fuck the war machine and fuck the plutocracy that keeps it churning!

Peace is two “wrongs” admitting they could be wrong:

“Man is a polluted river. One must be a sea to receive a polluted river without becoming defiled.” ~Nietzsche
Becoming a “sea,” as Nietzsche suggests, means becoming tolerant and open yet fierce and unapologetic. It means becoming so absolutely healthy that your very existence is an act of catalyzing the unhealthy and profoundly sick society that surrounds you. It means becoming a tonalizing force of nature despite an atonal culture. Derrick Jensen said it best: “Love does not imply pacifism.”
Thoughts and prayers mean fuck-all when it comes to facing down the war machine. Creative action is paramount. But you must not allow your actions to be reduced to the cowardly level of violence and war. That gives Goliath the advantage. Lowering yourself to the depraved level of warmongers just makes you one. As Audre Lorde said, “The true focus of revolutionary change is never merely the oppressive situations which we seek to escape, but that piece of the oppressor which is planted deep within each of us.”
Indeed. We must guard against lowering ourselves to the physical violence and hate that fuels the war machine. A new, more flexible, more intelligent, more antifragile tactic of violence is necessary to turn the tide. We must become resilient in our stance of compassion and love but also ruthless in defending it against tyranny. This requires self-defense only as a last resort. Up until that point, The Art of Fighting Without Fighting is essential.
This could mean anything from tricking the unhealthy system and the sick society (through Sacred Clown tactics) to creating radical art that thwarts its stranglehold on authority and forces people to think outside the box. It could mean ninjaneering nonviolent resistance through civil disobedience (or counting coup). It could mean using philosophy and psychology to plant radical thoughts into the minds of the ignorant masses. As Rebecca Goldstein said in Plato at the Googleplex“Philosophical thinking that doesn’t do violence to one’s settled mind is no philosophical thinking at all.”
Peace means allowing the radical art of others no matter how “wrong” it may seem, while also defending the self and people against the kind of immoral action that violates the golden rule and the nonaggression principle.
Violence is tricky because it’s such a vague concept. Violent art is usually healthy (unless it’s used to incite violent action). Whereas violent action is rarely healthy (unless it’s used for self-defense).
Being violent through the medium of art counterintuitively maintains a healthy balance and creates peace as it challenges the minds of the people to be openminded and tolerant of others. Whereas being violent in action creates only chaos and war.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson wisely stated, “A man is to carry himself in the presence of all opposition…I ought to go upright and vital and speak the rude truth in all ways…Your goodness must have some edge to it — else it is none.”
True tolerance is understanding that the human condition is fundamentally fallible and remaining peaceful in action and violent in art, despite. Peaceful action allows for freedom while violent art challenges the violent actions that could lead to war. It’s fuzzy logic, sure. But we are a fuzzy species.
Violent art upsets the stagnant belief of the status quo. And when the status quo is sick and warlike it behooves us to upset it. It behooves us to question it to the nth degree. It behooves us to do violence to its “settled mind” so as to prevent the kind of violent action that leads to war.
